Flag maintenance

Wind and Rain: In high winds it is recommended that you lower your flag. Remember that if it is windy at ground level it will be much worse at the top of your Flagstaff.

Heavy rain combined with high winds is the worst combination as rain increases the weight of the Flag and thus increases the windloading exerted on the Pole.

Washing and repair: Flags can be washed in a normal household washing machine on a 40 degree wash with normal detergents.

If the end of the Flag is frayed trim it and rehem to extend the life.

Damage: Damage is often caused by objects that the Flag beats on when flying and by old wooden flagstaffs that don't have a smooth surface.

Make sure that your flag cannot catch or snag on the pole or another object nearby.

Storage: Never store your flag when wet, always hang it up and allow it to dry before storing.

Pollution: Air pollution will cause the white areas of a Flag to become "grey" and although research is being carried out to overcome the problem but at the moment there is no cure.

What is the Life span of a Flag?

The life span of a Flag is impossible to predict as it is entirely dependent upon the climatic conditions and hours of flying (many Flags are not taken down at night).

We would advise that since most Flags are either an act of courtesy (National Flags) or and advertisement (Company Flags) it is best to have them in good condition by changing them often.

They are an inexpensive and highly visible advertisement of greeting.
